    They left VA with other Maddens & Rislers and went to KY (I think Mason Co.). The Rislers went on to Harrison Co, IN & a few yrs later the Maddens followed on to Harrison Co. taking with them some of the Pells with whom they had married i. Wm. & Sarah (Risler) Madden moved from
    Harrison Co, IN to Massac Co, IL abt 1830.
    Living in Hardin Co by 1840s. After the late 1840s his sister Sarah Catherine moved in with him following the death of her husband John Howe. Then after his mother died in 1854, his father moved in with him.

    Served as a teamster in War of 1812 for Capt. Francis Ireland's Co., Col Taylor Maryland Militia, and was paid by Quartermaster Wheaton. He enlisted at Berryvill, VA. Aug. 1814, went from there to Harpers Ferry to load guns for Baltimore, where he stayed till after the battle of Baltimore and was discharged Jan. 1815

    Wm. & Sarah (Risler) Madden moved from Harrison Co, IN to Massac Co, IL abt 1830. Sarah died there in 1854 and Wm. moved in with his son, John Temple Madden, in Hardin Co, IL.

    Note: 1. Roster of Solders & Patriots n Revolution buried in IN. He served 2 6 m onth tours in the Revolutionary War. Beginning Jul 1, 1778, as a private s oldier, at Hampshire Co., VA, substituting for Jacob Doll and ending 1 J an 1799. He was in Capt Abraham Johnsons, 13th VA Regiment. They went We st of Alleghany Mountains. And then went to Ohio River (1 mile below mou th of Big Beavere) and with Monongahela Milita built Fort McIntosh (Oct 17 78). They were in pursuit of indians, signed treaty, and built Fort Lawren ce in Nov 1778. Marching back from Ft. Lawrence to McIntosh, many men peri shed from hunger, fatigue and cold. About 1 Jun 1781 he again entered a as a volunteer and served until 1 Dec 1781. During this period his group j oined with general George Washington's troups and stood guard over sever al thousand of Cornwallis' prisoners. He went with them to Winchester Barr acks, Frederick Co., VA, and was discharged there. At the age of 73 he app lied for and was given a pension based on this service.
