    OBITUARY OF JEPTHA WEST
The Moulton Advertiser, April 26, 1896

Died, near Hatton Ala., on April 5, 1896, Bro. Jeptha West, at the advanced age of nearly 93 years. He was born July 25, 1803. Bro. West came to Alabama from Georgia. He joined the Missionary Baptist Church at Town Creek in the year of 1834 or 35 and was elected deacon of said church. He lived so far as I know a consistent member of the church. He was considered by those who knew him as one of the most loyal and honorable citizens of this county. As the sun shot forth its brilliant rays, I looked through the glass of his beautiful coffin, and taking into consideration his age he was the finest specimen of humanity that my eyes ever beheld. His wife has been dead 38 years. There were born unto them seven children. The girls all married good farmers and rank among the best citizens of Lawrence county. I will give their names. M.A. Grey, Jonathan Sandlin, W.H. Young, W.R. Turner, and James Ponder. They had two sons, W.B. West was a captain in the Confederate army. J.R. West was a Physician. Our brother has gone to the bright climes above, where all is joy and peace and love.
