Captain John Ferguson, Sr., local harbormaster, received a telegram Thursday stating that his sone John Ferguson, Jr., motor machinist mate first class, was critically ill at his station in New London, Connecticut, where he has been in training for some time. Ferguson, who was a former football star, had served for two and a half years in submarine service in the Pacific area before being assigned to the east coast for special training.

Captain John Ferguson, local harbormaser, has been informed that his son John Ferguson, Jr. motor machinist mate 1st class, reported as critically ill one day this week, was somewhat improved Saturday. His trouble was said to have been a bad appendix.
