Smith
MEDORA - Charles L. Smith, 63, was pronounced dead on arrival at 12:10 a.m. today at Jersey C ommunity Hospital, Jerseyville.
Born in Calhoun County, son of Charles A. and Ruth (Herter) Smith of Hardin, he was a machin e repairman at Owens-Illinois until retiring in 1979 after 32 years of service.
A veteran of World War II, he married the former Marian Maple on Apr. 12,1941.
In addition to his, parents and wife, surviving are two daughters, Ruth Ann Odell of Wheato n and Virginia Bruhn of Staunton; five sons, Charles Gary and Thomas L., both of Jacksonville , James M. of Jerseyville, Donald J. of Hixson, Tenn., and Steven F. of Ft. Worth, Texas; 1 2 grandchildren: a sister, Mildred Kinder of Hardin; and a brother, Robert G., also of Hardin .
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Warner-Targhetta Funeral Home in Medora, wher e services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday with the Rev Charles Barnes officiating.
Burial will be in Kemper Cemetery, and the Mt. Zion Baptist Church has been named as a memori al.
