Mar 14, 1772 from Ignatius Middleton of CC, Gentleman, to James Middleton of CC, Gentleman, for 225 £, a parcel of land in CC that my father and mother, James and Sarah Middleton, made over to me by deed of gift, called Jurden, bounded by Jurden branch where the Old Coach Road crosses sd Branch, which is the road that comes from the New Bridges to John Smith of Jordan Plantation, where he now lives, so up with the small branch that runs through the corn field to the head of sd branch and then a west course to the Mill Branch, then with Mill Branch until it comes to the road that goes from the New Bridges to Edward Jenkins, thence to Samuel Baggott, containing about 150 acres. Feb 8, 1758 from James Middleton and Sarah, his wife, of CC, to Smith Middleton and Ignatious Middleton, their sons, for the natural love they have for their sd sons and for divers other good causes, to wit, 100 £ sterling, part of a tract of land in CC and now in possession of sd James and Sarah, called Jordan. That is to say, to sd Ignatius, his part thereof (after the death of sd James and Sarah) beginning on Jordan Branch [Swamp] where the old Coach Road crosses the sd Branch, which is the Road that comes from the new bridges to John Smith of Jordan plantation where he now lives, so up with the small branch that runs through the corn field, to the head of the sd branch & then with a west course to the Mill branch, then with sd mill branch to the west side till it comes to the road that goes from the new bridges to Edward Jenkins & so with sd road till it comes to the back line, then with sd line to Samuel Baggett's line, so with sd line to Jordan branch, then with sd branch to the beginning. And sd Smith Middleton, all the rest of their part of sd tract of land. Whereas sd James and Sarah intend, by these presents, that each of their sd sons shall have as near as may be, an equal part of sd land, if it happens that the courses mentioned, if Ignatious' part fall short or exceed more than one half, whoever has the larger part, the overplus is to be valued by two honest men, one to be appointed by each son, & one half the value is to be paid by our son who has the larger part to the son with the smaller part. I, Ignatius Middleton, of CC, am justly indebted to Joseph Marbury of CC, in the sum of 240 and wanting to make sd Marbury all the satisfaction in my power, I hereby transfer to sd Marbury, Negro hays named Ralph and Jack, and 1 Negro girl named Sall, and all my books with all the accounts which are due thereon. But if sd Middleton pays sd Marbury, the sum of 240 £ by Sep 10, 1776, or if sd Marbuary receives from the several persons indebted to sd Middleton on the books afd, 240 £ by Sep 10, 1776, then these presents shall cease.
