Mrs. Elmer Breckenridge died at her home in the west part of Gretna Wednesday morning shortly before 8 o'clock. She had been ill, or in failing health, for nearly a year and her death was a welcome release from her sufferings. Her maiden name was Mary Jane Rishel and she was born May 24, 1831, in Clearfield county, Pennsylvania, and was married to George W. Long Jan. 23, 1849. They came to Nebraska in May, 1865. Five years later Mr. Long died and she married Elmer Breckenridge May 2, 1878, who survives her. The funeral services will be held this afternoon at the Methodist church, at 1 o'clock, and Rev. Lewis Campbell will conduct the services. Interment will be made in the Pennsylvania cemetery. Four sons, Newt, John, Mac and Harvey Long, and two daughters, Mrs. Albert Jordan and Mrs. Millard Duby survive her. Both John Long and Mrs. Duby live in Washington. The old settlers are being gathered in one by one and soon there will be none left. They have made a good fight here and will reap their reward in the happy life to come.
