South of the Meritt camp ground one and one-fourth miles and east of Burnt Prairie was the Patten camp ground, where the same preachers, in connection with some others, conducted a meeting in 1922. Meetings were kept up here for a number of years...
"In the summer of 1827 for some years afterwards, the Methodists held a camp meeting near a spring on the Porter place, one and one half miles northeast of Fairfield.... It was here that Charles Slocumb preached the funeral of John Barnhill and his wife."
