Owen Washington Burgess of 2nd Street, Crossville, a retired farmer, died at his home Wednesday afternoon, October 28. He was 89.
He was a native of Cumberland county, born January 10, 1881, a son of Daniel and Elizabeth Blaylock Burgess. His wife, the former Louise Wyatt, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning at the Stanley Street Church of God, with burial in the Burgess Cemetery at Midway, Rev Thomas Hale Jr officiating.
Surviving are 4 daughters, Maggie Hassler, Cora Tucker, Orland, Fl; Mary Stone, Sybil Rogers, Cumberland cty; 4 sons, Dan, Cumberland cty; Joe, Boyd, Covington, Ky; Clifford, Kissimmee, Fl; step-children Wilburn Dixon and Ruby Reese, Cumberland cty
He was married to Louise Wyatt Dixon in 1930; they had 3 children, Boyd W, Covington, Ky; Sybil Rogers, Crossville; Wilma, who died at birth.
He was born and reared on the same farm where he raised 11 children.
