- Samuel was born 9 Feb 1758 in Hyattstown MARYLAND. He was the firstborn of John and Charity McDougle. There is no further information on Samuel in the RCHS files. In the 1810 Fayette Co., German Township PA census there are two McDougle households: Alexander (definitely the son of John and Charity) and a Samuel household. In both cases the name is spelled "McDugall". It seems likely this Samuel is the son of John and Charity. There was only one page separation in the census listing of Alexander and Samuel. The age
categories for the Samuel household were: 1810 Males: Under 10 -1; Age 10-16 - 1; Over 45 - 1 Females: Under 10 - 3; Age 10-16 -1; Over 45 - 1 Also there was a Samuel McDougle who witnessed the deed transfer from Alexander to Charity in 1843; this was perhaps the same Samuel. It also gives rise to some speculation tat Samuel was the son of Alexander. However there is considerable material on the ancestry of Alexander which does not seem to include a son Samuel. It
is probable the 1850 listing is also the same Samuel. The 1850 German Township census listing gives a Samuel, age 43, a farmer born in PA, with wife Catherine 42. One of their seven listed daughters was named Charity, evidence that this Samuel was the son of either Samuel or Alexander. There is no evidence that Alexander had a son named Samuel;, his son John had a son Samuel Jackson, age 15 in the 1850 census. The Samuel in the 1850 census, age 43, could not be descended from Samuel's brother Benjamin. Thus it is plausible that the above German Township mentioned Samuels refer only to Samuel, Samuel Jackson, and Samuel(S?). The "Genius of Liberty" Oct. 1865 has a death listing of Samuel McDougle age 36. This could be the son of Samuel(S?). Among the "Solders of the War of 1812 from Fayette Co." was a Private Levi McDougal. It is possible he was a son of Samuel or Alexander.
