Rachel Rabb Newman,
daughter of William Rabb and Mary Smalley was born Jan 17 1790 in Fayette Co, PA. She married Joseph Newman on Jun 12, 186 in Warren Co, OH. They came to Texas in 1820 with her parents and brothers. Andrew, John, Thomas, and Ulysses Rabb as members of Stephen F. Austin's Old Three Hundred families.
They had 10 children:
1. Mary Polly born 1808 married Preston Gilbert.
2. William Rabb born 1810 married Martha Shedricks
3. Louisa born 1812
4. Minerva born 1814 married David Silcreggs and John Ruston
5. Sarah Jane "Sally" born 1818 married Jesse Robinson and George Scull
6. Elizabeth borh 1820 married Joseph Tumlinson
7. Thomas J.R> born 1821
8. Ali born 1824
9. Joseph Austin, born 1827 married Mary Rice and Elizabeth Dedrick Baker
10 Andrew Rabb, born 1830, married LYdia Smalley and Mary Lewis.
Joseph died Feb 15 1831 in Wharton Co, Texas at the age of 46 and was buried on their land at Egypt TX. Rachel died Dec 4 1872 in Karnes Co, TX and is buried in the Salt Creek Cem at Davy TX.

Joseph and Rachel (Rabb) Newman
were married in Warren Co, OH in 1806. Joseph was born in South Carolina in 1787 and Rachel was born Jan 17, 1790 in Fayette Co, PA. Joseph, Rachel and children moved with her parents, William and Mary (Smalley) Rabb) and her brothers from Ohio to Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, and Arkansas. While in Illinois, Joseph served in the war of 1812.
In 1820 the Newmans and Rabb families moved to the south side of the Red River to Jonesborough Texas and afterwards moved to the present day LaGrange area, arriving there in December 1823. Joseph was a member of the "The Old Three Hundred" Stephen F. Austin's original colonists. His land grant #59 dated Jul 5 1824 consisted of League 7 on the east side of the Colorado River north of present day Egypt, and his labor of land located on the Brazos River, below the town of San Felipe de Austin. Joseph served as a member of the first "Ranging Company" that was formed for the protection of the Colonists.
Joseph and Rachel had 10 children, Mary, William, Louisa, Minerva, Sarah, Elizabeth, Thomas, Ali, Joseph Austin, and Andrew, the last three born in Texas. Joseph died in 1831 at the age of 44 and is buried on his land near Egypt. Rachel died in 1872, living almost 83 years, and is buried in Salt Creek Cem at Davy, DeWitt Co, Texas
