- The son Samuel Shepard, also a cooper, lived unmarried to the age of eighty. He had a deed from his brothers John and Thomas in 1709, and between 1722 and 1731 conveyed land to his brother Thomas, his nephew Daniel Shepard, and ?'kinsman" ZebuIon Shepard. He spent his last years in the home of his brother Thomas, who named him in his will, but he survived Thomas by a year. The will of Samuel, dated I Feb. 1741/2, proved 2 Apr. 1745, gave his house and land to Ephraim, son of Susannah Shepherd dec'd [who receipted 18 Feb. 1754 for £72 received in lieu of the legacy, signing as Ephraim Tucker, Jr.]; land to Rebeckah Shepherd, daughter of brother Thomas; remainder of lands to brother Thomas Shepherd to maintain his incapable children, Ebenezer and Jane; executor, brother Thomas's son Zebulon. [Manwaring?s Digest, 3; 456-57J However, on 19 Mar. 1753, Joseph Shepard of Hartford and Daniel Brown of Simbury were appointed to administer on some intestate part of Samuel's estate, and distribution was made, 18 Dec. 1753, to the heirs of John Shepard, Thomas Shepard, Rebeckah Bigelow, Edward Shepard, Violet Stedman.
