Plans to demolish South Park Middle School are now on hold.

A judge has granted a temporary restraining order blocking the Beaumont ISD from tearing down the building.

Attorney Mike Getz filed for a motion for an injunction saying the school board promised to do a cost analysis to decide whether to renovate, demolish, or build a new one.

Getz claims that study was never done.

He was joined by dozens of people who attended the school.

They all gathered on the front steps Wednesday to try to save it.

"Just knowing they would tear down such a building, its sad."Ann Benoit Robbins said.

But former South Park teacher and student Charisma Popillion says South Park needs to match other schools in the district.

"At this point it's best for the school to come down. The history will never be lost. Another building will come back up." Popillion said.

The restraining order will be in effect until July 14th.

There's a hearing scheduled for that day but Mike Getz says that might change.

He believes the judge will be out of town.

We contacted the spokesperson for the Beaumont School District, but we haven't heard back.
