Bayou video of the day:
'Dozer vs. South Park

This is why they call it Good Friday!

Here is some TOP SECRET video of an ancient building being torn down (notice the classified "code": DSCN3403). For you wanna be espionage types, the "DSCN" stands for "DOWN! Sucka Comin' NOW!" We think. We dunno.

For you out-of-towners, here is two-and-a-half minutes of demolition goodness. Things start really fallin' apart around the 1:30 mark.

But wait, there's MORE! New legal maneuvering. Files have been filed -- see for yourself This will NEVER END!! 10 years from now, those poor South Park kidz will be attending classes in some ramshackle FEMA trailers. They sure do smell terrific.

After viewing, might we suggest you call your local school board representative and ask how they enjoyed their Easter holiday. It's the neighborly thing to do.

I especially love the way they made sure to start with the front stairs and entrance, to make sure that all the taxpayers and their contiguency could see the big symbolic middle finger if they happened to drive by. I mean, really, who starts with the front steps on a demolition project?

Thomas and the BISD sure didn't seem to mind paying that double time on Good Friday. They have made it clear that they will spend HOWEVER much money is nescessary so that you know your place- you do not decide how school funds are spent, THEY do, and that means what the Board wants GOES. Your welcome, residents of Beaumont!

It Happens, the building was in GREAT structural shape. Plus, the building doesnt teach the kids or even make a difference. They could have repaired and spent the difference teaching the kids how not to have sex at 12 and quit living off the Government. The Lonestar card shoud not be an Item of pride.

I heard a rumor that when Carroll Thomas came to Beaumont, he brought two mistresses with him. I also heard that he and his wife were separated for some time, after she came home and found him in bed with another woman, but they are back together now. I don't know how long ago this was, but it is just something I recently heard. What a moral leader we have for our school district.

Did the student need a new school? I say if they need it: get it. It does not mean they must rape the history of the South Park area. The school was a "Land Mark". Now it will be a mark on the land for a very long time. Greenies unite under this Rape. Rid the scum who would do this on Good Friday.

Christ, all you old greenies have more affection for an outdated, dilapidated building than you do for the kids that need new facilities. Give it a rest, what's done is done, now support the new school with the same enthusiasm that you exhibit in deriding BISD. I've said it on live at 5, and I'll say it here - Good facilities attract great teachers which educate the kids.

Do any of you not understand that a "new school" could have been had and still kept the facade of the old building? It's done all the time in other parts of the US and Europe. They literally gut the inside and bring it up to state of the art, but keep the exterior of the building. Now how exactly is the outside of the building going to hurt the learning of the children inside the building?
April 5, 2010 4:23 PM

New facilities are not going to atract good teachers. No more than this new school building is going to attract more people to move to the south end of Beaumont. What matters is that the kids have parents who are attentive to their children's education and support the teachers when they are trying to educate those kids. And as someone else said, the inside where the kids are could have been "new" while the exterior could have been "a historical building" - BISD wasted $20 million dollars that could have gone to educational materials and supplies and other items truly needed to educate those children.

I quite honestly cannot believe how STUPID a lot of people in Beaumont are. How many times does it have to be said (the thousand or so times already obviously isn't enough) that NO ONE IS SAYING KIDS SHOULD GO TO SCHOOL IN THE CURRENT (well, current before Friday) BUILDING. Here are the facts, and I'll try to write in small words so you can understand: 1) BISD clearly stated South Park would NOT be torn down, in order to secure votes for the bond 2) The bond passed, and BISD immediately made plans to begin tearing down South Park 3) It has been demonstrated a dozen times that a NEW BUILDING- that's BRAND NEW, you idiots- could be built behind the existing facade (front, like a face on a person) of South Park, for ONE FOURTH the cost of tearing down and building a new school So let's recap: BISD lied to get the bond passed, and would be brought up on charges of election fraud if the statute of limitations hadn't passed. By b***ching and moaning about "the kids deserve a new school!" you are only PROVING how utterly stupid and illiterate you are, because they could have a new school for 1/4 the cost of rebuilding if BISD wasn't asserting its racism and giving a big eff you to all the taxpayers in Beaumont. I swear to God, I feel like I'm living in crazy town. Get your heads out of your azzes and figure out what's actually going on, or do the world a favor and SHUT UP.

This video makes me want to vomit.

The South Park neighborhood is delapitated at best. A new school is not going to fix the root cause of the situation which is poverty, laziness and lack of pride. Even an older neighborhood like South Park has the ability to be beautiful with a little pride of ownership. The VERY BEST lesson our city could have given this neighborhood would have been a lesson in maintaining and taking pride in what you have. By repairing the facade and updating the interior, the children would have learned that they too can make their own place nice with effort. Instead, ole Doc want to teach them to tear down and build new. To hell with building character in the kids and preserving history.

What absolutely pisses me off the most is that not a thing has been done to Sallie Curtis yet. Dr. Thomas didn't want to spend the extra money to go ahead and build the new school for them. He used his brute force to make sure that Curtis has to wait until Regina is finished instead of building Curtis their own portable city.

Hmmm..... I believe I have seen quite a few portable cities built in the north and south ends for schools that have gone well over their projected build budgets....

I guess every school in the North & South ends should be first. Splurge for the folks that don't even pay taxes. Sounds fair right? What sense does it make to appease the majority of the taxpayers that live in the West End anyway? Thomas doesn't care what we think. He is just an evil version of Robin Hood.

Of course, since Curtis is the predominant West End school and seems to be LAST on the list, we better cross our finger and hope this bond money doesn't magically 'run out'......

You can attract good teachers with anything you have but when they start teaching kids raised by parents that don't care, They'll leave for less money to teach kids that will learn. Parents that want to teach their kids to say he be, we be, and she be and use the school system as a babysitter will have children as ignorant as themselves

Beaumont Born,
Exactly who are these people who "don't even pay taxes"? The state of Texas and Beaumont also have a sales tax and every dime spent except on food is taxed. Gas? Taxed.
Booze? Taxed.
Incomes? Taxed.
Non food items in stores? Taxed.
Clothing? Taxed.
Pharmaceuticals? Taxed.
Payrolls? Taxed.
Unearned incomes? Taxed. New and used car sales? Taxed.
Housing? Taxed.
Victemhood is a life choice and it's boring in conversations with, you know, real people. But you could just blow off steam amongst you and your other selves.

As a teacher at South Park, I am glad that our students will get a new school where the old school was. For the last two years, the students at South Park have scored highest in the district in social studies (even higher that Marshall and Odom), 2nd in reading and third in math. They obviously know more than the value of a Lonestar card. The children deserve as much as any student in the district. BTW, I am white

Anne, when you shell out thousands a year on Beaumont property taxes that rapidly increase, and actually reside in the BISD district, then feel free to speak. Until then, SIT & SPIN sister!

***I'm willing to bet that 3 blocks of South Park homes pay less in taxes than 1 block of West End homes. It all boils down to property values. We pay more taxes, but we have older schools... just sayin'....

But to get all hyper technical with you:

Gas? Taxed - fair enough

Booze? Taxed - you got me on this one!

Incomes? Taxed - if they work and aren't on government support. But then again, you have so many deductions with the # children and poverty levels that they get all the money back plus some more in the end.

Non food items in stores? Taxed - fair enough, the Family Dollar does well over there.

Clothing? Taxed - fair enough

Pharmaceuticals? Taxed - Medicare, Medicaid, Chip, SSI.... Guess again Annie!

Payrolls? Taxed - Have you seen any businesses in South Park lately besides a few gas stations, the Church's Chicken, the tax refund place, a busted up laundromat and the burglar barred Market Basket? Oh wait, let's not forget that prize of a shopping mecca, the Ave A Stadium Center... Give me a break lady!

Unearned incomes? - Are you kidding me? That would cut into the refund they are 'owed'

New and used car sales? Taxed - possible... you know what they say 'live in a busted old house but my wheels on my Caddy are polished'

Housing? - see *** above. Most of these homes are of minimal value. I'm sure quite a few are rentals and the tenants definitely don't pay the prop taxes on those.

To Anon 6:48 - I'm not a Greenie, so I don't want the brick. However, my grandmother is and it would mean the world to her and her friends to have one. It's about their nostalgia and special love for what used to be an important part of their life. Most folks don't understand the type of deep rooted loyalty the Greenies have. It's quite admirable to say the least. I'm all for preserving history, and I'm certain these ladies would love to have a South Park brick in their garden.

You are right on Anon 8:22! Most of the taxes Anne speaks of are Federal and State taxes... but then again, she doesn't live here, so how would she know?

I'm sure some of those Fed & State taxes trickle back into the school coffers through Title 1, etc... but BISD relies on property taxes and they would be wise to shape up before more of their backbone (West End) ships out to Lumberton, Fannett, China & Mid-County.

"This South Park thing will NEVER end" - Not as long as the "media" keeps stirring it. It's a shame some in the "media" work so hard at creating discord in the community, but then again, maybe they wouldn't have a job if they didn't. I still remember when local media was trusted and respected. I'd like to believe that the South Park alumni that care about this issue resent this kind of smut.

By the way, did your South Park education teach you that you descended from apes too?

Bmt Born, you are a nitwit. It would take at least ten city blocks of old houses in the South End to equal the value of one house in the West End.

What I find amusing Born, is your sense of superiority based on that you live in better accommodations but you bitch because property values go up, like you have been unfairly singled out because of your wealth.

HEY DUMBASS! EVERYONE'S PROPERTY VALUATION WENT UP. WE ARE ALL PAYING MORE PROPERTY TAXES.

If you don't like it, then move in a cheaper house and give up that West End status symbol your sunk into.

Do you have the figures for how many people in the West End are stuck under soul crushing debt because they insist on having the finer things in life whether they can afford them or not?

Nitwit Beaumont Born,

I gather from your statements that since the West End pays more taxes than the South End that you think either:

1. West End should have more "say" in how the money is spent.

OR

2. That tax money should be spent on a percentage basis based on which end of town paid more--the West End gets more benefits of the tax money.

The tax money is for the benefit of the whole of the city of Beaumont and BISD regardless of who pays more.

But I guess that plays into your South Park mentality that in the City of Beaumont you had two independent school districts--one rich because of tax money it received from an oil refinery and one poor because it did not. It's just the luck of the draw, right?

The tables have now turned and you white people moved out of the old South Park neighborhood and into the West End and you still enjoy the better schools and neighborhoods, yet you still want to fight over some god damned old building in a place you call would call niggertown amongst yourselve, in a neighborhood you wouldn't even drive through, never mind live in.

Oh, the irony!
