Court denies appeal to stop South Park demolition
By AMY MOORE April 5, 2010 Posted: April 5, 2010, 4:53 PM CDT An appeal to the Ninth Court of Appeals to stop demolition at South Park school has been denied. Michael Getz, an attorney for the school's alumni group who hoped to save the school, said he received word of the denial around 4:30. "I'm not sure where that leaves us," he said. "I'll have to talk to my clients, but they'll be sorry to hear this." Getz filed the appeal Thursday after Beaumont ISD requested and was granted a demolition permit to tear down the school building on Highland Avenue. Demolition began Friday and continued Saturday and this morning. Melody Chappell, attorney for the school district, said Getz had since January to file the appeal. "It was no secret," she said of the district's plans to demolish the school buidling to replace it with a new school. He makes false comparisons from saving one significant building to saving every building that's ever existed, and then dismisses the factual rebuttal of his misleading comparisons as opinion. "Too bad for you!" Ha, ha. From his comments this morning on the main article, it sounds like he works in healthcare. How do his patients feel about being treated by someone with such a cold, uncaring attitude? Or does he act like he has feelings around them, and just saves that attitude for being rude to people concerned about their community in comments on a newspaper website? - looking for ways to irritate, undercut, and discourage people, between looking for ways to distract people from the real issues. The school board deciding to neglect and then demolish the building has nothing to do with parenting. 04/06/2010 10:15 AM CDT timwopel wrote: yeah, the stuff being trashed has more to do with parenting than the school board., teach your children well. parents, that means you. 04/06/2010 09:03 AM CDT corky2 wrote: Both Haynes (medicated or not) and Chappell said now they can quit wasting tax dollars on this litigation. 20 million EXTRA will be spent because they ambushed the school. Comments like those by district spokes people insult everyone's intelligence. "We put an end to that costly litigation, so we could waste 20 million...for the kids." Absolutely, fraud or malfeasance can be pursued. What do you think the FBI is/was doing in town? Brassard had the nerve to mention that someone should have bought the school. I don't think it was for sale. She's a major disappointment. The rest of the board has convinced her she'll be board prez if she'll block vote with them. Wow, what an honor. President of a board that lies and steals....congrats! She's a sell out. Nance is a push over, the other four are racists, Tommy's out numbered, and Timwopel, you're still a D**k! That new metal garage with furniture and computers will be trashed out within a couple of years. Better start taking care of your stuff BISD, because you'll not pass another Bond, and unless you find another district to absorb your corrupt outfit, you are now screwed. 04/06/2010 08:59 AM CDT timwopel wrote: that is your opinion. too bad you aren't calling the shots. too bad for you! 04/06/2010 08:59 AM CDT lookintothis wrote: This was not some ramshackle one-room schoolhouse, and this was not some average characterless box of a school building. It was a very-solidly-built building, with historic (and good-looking) architecture, important history, and a lot of community symbolism. The facade (EXTERIOR) should not have anything to do with their educational process. In addition to that, spending an extra $20 million dollars to have a new exterior instead of renovating the interior is just not financial sense. That $20 million could have gone to items to actually help educate the kids. Items like lab kits for the science rooms, upgraded cafeteria facilities, interactive classrooms, computer systems, etc. What about laptops for all the kids to take home? Now that wouldn't have been a waste of money would it? 04/06/2010 06:53 AM CDT Beekeeper wrote: Nostalgia design is certainly popular. Think Ford Thunderbird, Mustang and Chrysler PT Cruiser and Prowler. The City Hall building in Sour Lake has the exterior appearance of a old train station depot. The inside is electronically connected and networked. Doc Thomas will never go for pleasing both sides. It's against his primal nature. 04/06/2010 12:33 AM CDT Wavy Gravy wrote: Exactly, EPN. And, since BISD primary concern is quality education, then there should be no problem about the outwardly appearance of the structure. Right? Good. Dress up the new construction to look like the former South Park HS building. Nostalgia is cool. And, if Carrol can't see it that way, then he proves he's a fraudulent person as well as a notorious @SShole. 04/06/2010 12:09 AM CDT EPN wrote: Thomas & company NEED to be held accountable for the FRAUD!
