Sherry,
My family and I lived at 4210 Brandon Ave. which runs parallel to Highland Ave. For many years the band would frequently practice marching and playing on Highland Ave. after school. I can't tell you the pleasure that gave to my friends and me as we often sat on my large front porch anxiously waiting to see through the intersection a glimpse of the band as it passed by. Of course the music alerted us that we'd better look quickly or we'd miss seeing them, and the music faded away as the band marched on up Highland.
Good ol' memories!!!! I can remember the band getting into formation on the campus often, just as this pictures shows. Those were the good ol' days!
