What's up "Doc?" Mean "green" lying machine

Go ahead, read the ruling. You don't need a law degree to see that this whole South Park imbroglio comes down to one issue: a lie.

Thomas, and his charges, LIED; and the Board was complicit. It says so in perfectly legible legal speak.

"The court finds that the Defendants, through their agents and representatives, caused statements to be disseminated to the electorate in a pamphlet published in a local newspaper that expressly stated that if the 2007 bond passed, that the old South Park building would not be demolished..."

Could this be, as the BISD says, "bad law?" Sure. The court did recognize an opposing precedent: a 1985 case, Davis v. Duncanville ISD, stated that "the Superintendent has no authority on his own to set policy for the District and the Board is not bound by any representations he may have made." So there is the very real possibility this can -- and will -- be overturned.

But the judge knows what the rest of Beaumont is painfully aware of: Thomas and the Board speak with one mind. So while not an "official" Board decree, the actions of Thomas and co. did MISLEAD voters and, therefore, led to this "deception." Everyone was involved. And we've not even gotten to the tax dollars being wasted here.

Even if tearing down South Park was the right thing to do, Thomas and the Board tainted that course of action by deceiving voters. Regardless of what occurs now at trial, the damage -- and ensuing PR mess -- has already been done. How do you fix something like this? You clean house. The WHOLE house.

When it comes to the well-being of our children, it is the adults who seem to need the most coddling.

Sad, folks. Truly depressing.
