The Beaumont Independent School District executive board has voted to appeal a temporary injunction on the demolition of south park.
The board voted to appeal Judge Bob Wortham's decision in front of nearly 100 people many of whom were wearing green t-shirts in support of South Park.
"We feel like BISD could get a great school by renovating the current school," said Antoine Leblanc who supports renovating South Park instead of tearing it down. "by renovating the school it gives kids what they need and it saves taxpayers money."
Others were excited to hear that the district was appealing the decision.
"It's the right thing to do," said David Pete who had two children attend South Park. "the public voted and now it is time to move on."
The board met behind close doors for about an hour before they voted. Melody Chappell who is representing BISD has 20 days to file a brief to an appellate court. Filing an appeal will have no effect on the temporary injunction that currently stops BISD from tearing down the school.
Attorney Michael Getz who is representing the Beaumont Heritage Society said the two parties must be done with mediation by September 8. Getz says he contacted BISD last week and is still waiting on the district's response.
A trial is set for September 21.
