A district court judge says he expects to make a decision Monday afternoon concerning the future of the former South Park High School.
The Beaumont Independent School District has been prohibited from demolishing the former home of South Park by a temporary restraining originally issued in June by judge Bob Wortham. BISD officials wanted to level the building and build a new school campus as part of a plan funded by a multi-million dollar bond issue. Judge Wortham granted a restraining order at the request by the Beaumont Heritage Society over concerns the district could not do so because of restrictions in place as the result of a historical marker at the school.
Last week hearings began before Judge Wortham that will determine if demolition may proceed as the district planned. On Monday Morning Judge Wortham told KBMT he expects to announce his decision after 3 p.m. Monday. KBMT’s Michael Seiden will have more on this story at 5 and 6 p.m.
