Doctor,
I have not been able to come home very often during
the past forty years due to my military, civilian and church commitment as a
pastor and evangelist. I can assure you however that the last time I was home I
went to SPHS just to stand on the sidewalk and bring back mental images of my
days attending that great school. SPHS won many championships in many sports and
academics as well over the years. SPHS created some tremendous scholars who have
gone on in their careers to be extremely successful. Many have given their lives
in the defense of this great country so that others can have a great education
as well.
Don't tell me, that Beaumont, Texas, with all the oil
that it produces, along with it's other industries, cannot preserve a historical
site such as SPHS, but they want "Greenies" to "dig into their Greenie pockets?"
I really have no problem contributing to the preservation of my old Alma Mater.
I am not wealthy sir, not do I "sport" the title of "Doctor" in the front of my
name. (You can call that sarcasm if you want, but you have gotten my Red Neck,
Greenie, Southern Texas blood boiling sir.)
You should be
standing tall and feeling proud that there are ex-students who have a desire to
preserve some of the rich history that is part of Beaumont, Texas. That school
had some of the greatest teachers in the whole United States and some students
who could very easily (and possibly have) have served as senators, congressmen,
or other high offices. I know it produced some doctors and nurses. I know for an
absolute fact that it produced some hard preachers too who have given their
lives to serve God.
You know something else .... it produced
some great wives, homemakers, mothers, and grandmothers ... some true ladies,
because they were taught values!!!
Sir, preserve our history!!
they funds will be there if you step out in
faith.
Sincerely,
Pastor/Evangelist Arthur W. "Bill"
