GREENIE FIGHT NEVER
DIES!
Let us not forget that our building
was also the birthplace (third floor) of what is now Lamar University! We
should get Lamar folks involved in this too! Their founding building is as
much a part of Lamar history as it is to South Park. Even the South Park
football field served as a home to the Lamar Cardinal football team on Saturday
nights before the building of Cardinal Stadium. All in all, the building
and surrounding grounds should mean a lot more to BISD than they are showing to
the public in the bond hearings if they value history at all. Shall we
allow the 'fine' folks of the BISD school board to send another vital
and historical Southeast Texas community landmark to the scrap heap
unchallenged? After all, the 1907 L.R. Pietzsch building (the first SPHS
building) went the way of the wrecking ball not too many years ago. At
this rate, the former South Park ISD schools will have no physically
tangible history left standing in another 20 years. Why? Folks from
South Park know why. BISD is finding out why.
