Good Evening,

Dr. Thomas, School Board Trustees, Concerned Citizens.

I have appeared here before and as you know, I am a graduate of South Park High School.

I represent the hundreds of ALUMNI and concerned citizens that are against the demolishing or closing of South Park Middle School (South Park High School).

Here are over Two Thousand Eight Hundred signed petitions stating that WE oppose your decision of the destruction regarding SPHS.  These petitions are from South Park Graduates who are now living all over the world as well as current Beaumont citizens who share the same sentiments.  They, like me, are against closing or demolishing this historical school.

We have also heard from the Texas Historical Commission and South Park is eligible for listing in the National Register of Historical Places. We are currently getting the information together that they requested.

The National Register listing will put this Committee in a position of having Grants available to refurbish the South Park Building.  I am presenting you with what the people of Beaumont want and with the means to that end.  Please leave South Park Middle School (South Park High School) in tact so that the children in the South Park Area can go to their neighborhood school.

Thank you.

Presented to School Board:

1. 2800 signed petitions

2. Response to Engineering Report, written by Jack Lawrence

4. Attachment to Letter from Historical Commission laying out avalable
