The public is invited to hear a new plan from the Beaumont ISD about the construction of Curtis Elementary. This could delay the opening of the school 18 months and would require Curtis operations to move to the temporary Regina-Howell facility on Major Drive after Regina-Howell students move out. Curtis is one nine elementary schools that is scheduled to be built as part of the 2007 voter-approved $389 million bond package. Current plans call for the new Curtis to be built behind the existing facility on North Circuit Drive. The new school would open in Spring 2011, according to a district news release. Project managers say the new option will provide for a safer, more cost-efficient and academically-prudent operation, according to the news release. The meeting will be held at the Curtis Elementary School cafeteria, 6225 N. Circuit Drive, at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Of course they did not measure the land correctly, they can't even teach math in school, how would you expect them to use math in a real world situation. 08/31/2009 10:45 PM CDT

Rumor has it that BISD did not accurately measure the land available at the Curtis site and therefore canNOT build there whilst the students remain in the current building. If this is true, then this meeting is not to introduce a "new" plan but to correct an egregious (and likely expensive) mistake by forcing children into the portable encampment on Major Drive and pushing back construction another 18 months. Taxpayers of Beaumont, beware! I see more flying dollar signs in your future. 08/31/2009 09:21 PM CDT

You had to see this coming a mile away. If the new building is built behind the old, there is no way this is more "cost-efficient. The time value of money and building costs alone make this scenario more expensive. 08/31/2009 04:27 PM CDT
