LeRoy O. Sheff Jr. February 11, 1944 - May 9, 2003 LeRoy passed away peacefully in his Martin ez home after a long illness. LeRoy had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge which caused hi m to be an avid reader and trivia buff. He loved the outdoors and preferred to be in the moun tains. He had a quick wit and often offered an embarrassing one liner. LeRoy was preceded i n death by his father, LeRoy Sheff Sr., and his son, Leeo Sheff who passed November 30, 199 8 at the age of 26. LeRoy is survived by: his mother Mildred; and brothers Carl and Charles ; his wife of 33 years Sharlene; children, Kip, Duane, Richelle, Michelle, and Tonya; and 1 8 grandchildren who will miss him desperately. A celebration of his life will be held on Ma y 15, 2003 at 2:00 pm.

No services will be conducted.
Born Jan. 20, 1917, in Madison, Ill., he moved to Shasta County from Martinez in 1973.
He was employed by Hercules Powder Co. in Hercules.
Survivors include wife Mildred; sons Charles of Redding, Carl of Petaluma and LeRoy Jr. of Ma rtinez; several brothers and sisters; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are being handled by McDonald's Redding Chapel.

No services will be held.
Mrs. Sheff was born May 13, 1924, in Albuquerque, N.M., and moved to Shasta County in 1980 fr om Tehama County.
She was a licensed vocational nurse.
Survivors include sons Charles of Redding and Carl of Santa Rosa; 11 grandchildren; numerou s great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Arrangements are being handled by McDonald's Redding Chapel.

A former Altontian, Charles Elery Sheff, 67, died Wednesday afternoon at West Los Angeles, Ca lif., according to word received by Alton area relatives. He had been in ill health for som e time, and a daughter, Mrs. Adeline Drury of Godfrey, had been in West Los Angeles attendin g him since Thanksgiving.
Mr. Sheff was born May 3, 1890 at Eldred. He was married to Laura Ellen Snider in Alton, an d they would have observed their 48th anniversary of their marriage, Dec. 22, had he lived.
With his family he moved from Alton to California in 1939. He had been eomplyed here for a n umber of years by Hyndman Ice and Coal Co. In California he had been in the trucking business .
In addition to his widow and daughter, Mrs. Drury, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Marc ella Bennett and Mrs, Marlene Baker, Los Angeles; six sons, Chester, Harold, Leroy, Paul, Dav id and Richard, all of California; two sisters, Mrs. Edith Nicholson of Edgar Springs, Mo., a nd Mrs. Lily Romane, Franklin Spur, .III.; 26 grandchildren, and four greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert.
Funeral services and burial will be at Santa Monica, Calif.
The body is at Kingsley Ð Gales Funeral Homo, Santa Monica.

John Snider, 80, Buried in County
John Abraham Snider, 80, died at his home in Hardin last Thursday, December 14, at 10:40 p.m. , after an illness of about eight years. He was born January 17, 1860 in Jersey County and c ame to Calhoun County when a young man making his home in Hardin for 62 years.
Mr. Snider spent all his working life at farming. He was the son of James Allen Snider of Je fferson County, Illinois and Rebecca Hill of Jersey County.
He was married to Miss Mary Hyatt and to them ten children were born, six preceding the fathe r in death, namely Mrs. Katherine Matthews and Mrs. Addie Hamilton and four infants. He is s urvived by the widow Mrs. Mary Snider, two daughters Mrs. Wylis Arnett of Carlinville and Mrs . Laura Sheff of Alton; two sons, Allen and Ernst, both of Hardin.
Other survivors are 22 grandchildren, 27 great grand children, two brothers, William and Henr y Snider of Hardin, one sister, Mrs. August Geske of Oak Grove, a large number of nephews an d nieces and many other relatives and friends who deeply mourn his departure.
Funeral services were held in Hardin Sunday at the Presbyterian Church with Rev. Frank Cook e of Eldred officiating and burial was in the cemetery here, under direction of Kenneth Sidwe ll Funeral Service.
