Less detail
Generation: 1

  1. 1.  Abraham Rizor was born in 1775 in Washington Co, Pennsylvania (son of Jacob Rizor and Elizabeth Leffler); died after 1860 in Marion Co, Iowa.

Abraham married Elizabeth Fivecoat about 1820 in Washington Co, Pennsylvania. Elizabeth (daughter of Michael Fivecoat and Katherine Fivecoat) was born about 1785 in Loudoun Co, Virginia, (probably); died about 1850 in Marion Co, Iowa. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Children:
    1. Abraham A Rizor was born on 04 Mar 1817 in Harrison Co, Ohio; died after 1843 in Hutchinson, Marion Co, Iowa.
    2. Samuel Rizor was born in 1819; died after 1853.
    3. John Rizor was born on 20 Jun 1821; was christened after 1821.

Generation: 2

  1. 2.  Jacob Rizor was born before 1740 in Bern, Switzerland; died on 20 Oct 1825 in Donegal Twp, Washington Co, Pennsylvania.

    Notes:

Johann Jacob came from the area between Bern and Zurich, Switzerland. French was spoken west of Bern and German was spoken east of Bern. Jacob most certainly spoke German as evidenced by his membership in the Old Reformed Church in Funkstown, Maryland between 1773 and 1776 (Funkstown was near Hagerstown, MD).
(contributed by Wayne Rizor in Nov. of 1999).

Notes from one family source say that Johann had 9 children. The church records have his name recorded as "Reysser". The name is also spelled "Ryser" in Swiss. When his great-granddaughter, Elizabeth, married Marion General Martin she signed her last name as "Reyser", and the minister wrote it as "Risor". Johann Jacob was naturalized in 4-11-1746.

Sometime prior to 1787 they traveled "west" and settled in Donegal Twp., Washington County, Pennsylvania. Family notes indicate that they traveled through Lancaster. Pa on the way.

Regarding his wife Elizabeth and her parents:
A small group of settlers led by Jacob Leffler settled at the Dutch Fork on the Buffalo Creek in Donegal Twp, Washington Co, Pennsylvania in 1777. Jacob's name was recorded on a Loyalty Oath form late that year. The Washington County web site has more information on him. This family line split from Dutch Fork and spread to Iowa and then Tennessee; Ohio to Michigan, and Ohio to Colorado (contributed by Wayne Rizor in Nov. of 1999)

It should be noted here that early colonial penmanship used what appeared to be the letter "F" in script to denote the letter "S". Is there a chance the name could have been "Lessler" or "Loessler" and not Leffler? I have seen it as Loessler on several web sites. Many thanks to Christine Martin for imformation from her' HOLMES Ohio Families' Tree

Notes for Jacob Rizor: from Crumrine's History of Washington Co., PA
Jacob Rizor was a settler in Donegal township before 1787, as his name is found on the assessment-roll of that year. He purchased by verbal contract from Jacob Lefler, the father of his wife, fifty acres of land, to which he did not obtain a legal title during his lifetime. On the 20th of October, 1825, the land was conveyed to Elizabeth, widow of Jacob Rizor, for her use during her life, to go at her death to the sons of Jacob and Elizabeth Rizor, viz.: John, Abraham,Jacob, George, and Henry Rizor.

Poss. father Abraham Risser, Anna Lehman; gf Hans Risser

I am investigating the possibility that Jacob's father may have been Jakob Risser (son of Hans Risser), born 14 Jan 1720 in Friedelsheim, Germany. He, along with brothers, Abraham and Peter came to America in 1727. Jakob was naturalized in 1761. He married Elizabeth Senner. Jakob died in 1790.
Peter [Jakob's brother] was born January 1713 in Friedelsheim, married Elizabeth Hershey (b 1714 in Friedelsheim) and died 2 Dec 1804 in Elizabethown, Lancaster Co, PA.
    Abraham [Jakob's brother] was born 2 Jan 1725, d 21 Feb 1813"
COMMENT: According to other sources, Jacob (b 1750) is the s/o Abraham Risser.

info per Beecham and Bell record. He served in militia under Capt. Jacob Leffler, oath of allegiance (Ohio Co, VA) Oct 10-1777 with Francis Miller, John Kinser, Henry Fullenwider.
