Herbert. All I know about him is that after his dad Herbert died, his step mother was unable to care for him, so his Aunt Juanita took him in as a foster child.
Likewise, Mary Lou was taken in by her Aunt Francis as a foster child. That is all Paul recalled.
Herbert worked in a printing office by day and as a drummer in a club in the evening. Paul remembered that all his wives ...loved to dance the poka.

    Notes:

History of New Mexico by George B Anderson, Pacific States Publishing Co.

H.B. Ryther is a well known representative of journalistic interests in New Mexico. He came to Portales in 1903 and established the PortalesTimes on the 17th of February 1903. This is the official paper of Roosevelt county and has a weekly edition published on Saturdays. It is independent in politics and is devoted to the dissemination of local and general news and to the furtherance and exploitation of the interests and resources of this section of the Territory. He is a native of Michigan and he brought to his new home the enterprising spirit which has been the dominant factor in the rapid and substantial upbuilding of the middle west. Here he took up a ranch, which he is now operating in connection with his journalistic ventures. His political views are in accord with Republican principles and he is a stalwart advocate of the party and its policy.

He is buried in the Printers Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was the owner/publisher of the Portales Herold and is listed in the book of New Mexico Who's Who

Herbert^ married Mary Ellen^ Goosay (Goosey) in 1895. Mary (daughter of John Otis^ Goosey, Jr. and Abigail^ Mullins) was born in May 1877 in Missouri; died on 26 Feb 1927 in Clovis, Curry Co, New Mexico; was buried in Portales Cem, Portales, Roosevelt Co, New Mexico. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 5.  Mary Ellen^ Goosay (Goosey) was born in May 1877 in Missouri (daughter of John Otis^ Goosey, Jr. and Abigail^ Mullins); died on 26 Feb 1927 in Clovis, Curry Co, New Mexico; was buried in Portales Cem, Portales, Roosevelt Co, New Mexico.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Census: 1920, Roosevelt Co, New Mexico

    Notes:

Mary Ellen was the wife of Herbert Baxtor Ryther. He is buried in the Printers Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was the owner/publisher of the Portales Herold and is listed in the book of New Mexico Who's Who

    Census:
    b 1876, Missouri, age 44,
father b Illinois; Mother b Virginia

    Research Notes:
Not sure of her parents; however some trees indicate she was daughter of a John b 1850, with no substantiation.

DNA shows a match between Ted Sharp, a descendant of Mary Ellen Goosey Ryther and mfarquharchang66, a descendant of Gilbert Hanson with a predicted as 3rd; range: 3rd - 4th
confidence extremely high. If this theory is correct, she would be a 3rd cousin to Ted.
mfarquharchang66 also shows kinship to John (son of Ted); but as 5th - 8th with only a confidence of moderate. This variance can and does happen. so it's still a reasonable assumption that she might be sister to Gilbert Hanson Goosey. It also seem reasonable that she could very well be more like a 4th cousin to Ted and 5th to John.

Another point of consideration is in varying census records she stated her parents were both born MO; in another she said gather born MO and mother VA and then in 1920 father born Illinois and mother Virginia. Grandparents of Gilbert Hanson were married in Illinois, so that could have been a reason for her putting that down.

At least until perhaps further DNA or records prove otherwise, this is best guess.

    update: 3/5/2016
another DNA match is "mcmaker" predicted 4th cousin, confidence extremely high. mcmaker was a common match with Paul Phillipe (a cousin from Ryther side). Actual kinship thru Tiptons calculates to 2nd 3R. So this gives further confidence in Mary Ellen's parentage.

Subject: Find A Grave Photo Request Problem - Sarah Anthony

    Greetings from Find A Grave,

We are writing to let you know that a Find A Grave volunteer has reported a problem with your photo request for Sarah Anthony.

The general problem they reported is:
I searched the stated plot or section and could not find the grave

    They also reported, specifically:
    highest # in Section C is 333
    ____
I then called the cemetery and was told that the section did exist, that it was just beyond the 333 and for the volunteer to check with the office if they needed help. I was told C334 was Oral E Wiley; and just north of 333, last corner lot, NE corner of Section C.
    Space 1 is Sarah,
    Space 2 is Horace,
    Space 3 is not marked
Space 4 is Oral E. Wyley

    I submitted this additional information.

I went out and looked for Horace Anthony and his wife's headstones.....
you gave the locatioin of Section C #334.......
    the markers are not there!!
I found the ones for Oral E Wylie, who's still living, and
his wife Ruby Wylie, which, but Horace and his wife have no markers.
So, I call Memory Gardens 806-665-8921,
spoke with Gena Zuniga, her and her husband Daniel run the place.
Gena went out and looked, found nothing there, returned to her office and looked up the paperwork. She said the Anthony family was supposed to purchase a marker from LaGrone Monument Company(probably in Amarillo), but show no paperwork where they did. Gena also said that Memory Gardens had a fire in 1995, and no other paperwork exsists concerning the Anthonys. I would think you could find out about the fire though our local newspaper The Pampa News 806-669-2525.

  8. 15.  Paradine^ Wilson, (Cherokee) was born about 1868 in Indiana; died after 1888.

    Notes:

Paradine was a full-blood Indian, as noted by family knowledge. Her name "Paradine Wilson" was named as Pearl's mother on her death cert as informed by Pearl's daughter.

There's a Paradine Saltsman 1854-1923; dau of Geo W. and Elizabeth Saltsman in 1860 Grayson KY. who m John D. Ashley who had a sister named Paradine Ashley.
Perhaps "Paradine" was her "white" name given to her by Saltsman. He was clearly still married at the time they had Pearl as there were children born in his marriage to Edwards before and after Pearl. However, there was a gap in their children, so perhaps there had been a separation during this period.

    1. 7. Sarah Pearl^ Saltsman, (1/2 Cherokee) was born on 7 May 1889 in Warrick Co, Indiana; died on 28 May 1971 in Pampa, Gray Co, Texas; was buried on 1 Jun 1971 in Memory Gardens of Pampa, Pampa, Gray Co, Texas.
