Abraham Randles was born December 25, 1792 in Loudon County, Virginia. He was the son of Martha & Jonas (James) Randles. Will for Martha Randles is probated April 1838 in Coshocton County.

Abraham married Elizabeth (Chaney) in 1813. Abraham & Elizabeth Randles moved to N.E. quarter of Sec. 5 Township No. 5 (now Roscoe) Coshocton County on December 9, 1816 from Harrison County, Ohio. Official Land Record. The 1881 History states that the nearest neighbors were 8 miles away. This property was on the old Mount Vernon Road which is Jackson County Road 55. In one of the recent books about Roscoe, on page 17, he is named as the pioneer. Abraham afterwards removed to the Killbuck, in the northern part of the county, where he died.

Rd. 129) cemetery is about a mile on the right side.
This tombstone was vandalized probably on November 28,1998. The article appears in The Holmes County Hub, (Millersburg, Ohio newspaper) front page on Thursday, December 10, 1998 along with a history of this Cemetery. As of October 2006, the tombstone still has not been repaired and is on the ground! Revolutionary War soldier, John Gwinn, who was the grandfather of Benjamin Caster is buried here
Abraham's age (on the stone)is 64 years 9 months 7 days of age. His daughter, Sarah, who married Benjamin Caster is also buried several rows away here.

The children of Elizabeth (Chaney) and Abraham Randles Sr, are listed on Randles Station.com. Some of whom I have not yet found the gravesites of. I have found no evidence that Abraham was married twice.

was 1/2 Delaware Indian of the Algonquin Tribe? As a child I'd heard this but, no one seemed to know anymore or wouldn't tell if they did. I got this off a Query and email back last night.

d/o Dickerson Wood, Jr and Hannah Withers (of Fauquier Co, VA)
Dickerson Wood Jr. s/o D. Wood Sr and Mary (?) Is Mary the Indian? If so, Amelia would be 1/4; and Dickerson Jr 1/2. Maternal line is all accounted for. This would be only suspect.

    Notes:

He married Sarah (Mansfield) on November 29, 1787 in Baltimore County, Maryland. A part of Maryland is now Washington County, Pa. The couple came to Harrison County in 1805.
According to the Harrison Co. History, written in the 1880's, Nathan had told that his parents came to America at the beginning of the French and Indian War. (1756-1763)

Note: if this is true, then he is not the son of Richard and Mary Gassaway as many people have him since Richard was not an immigrant, nor was his parents, Charles Cheney Jr & Mary Powell. Internet records are not consistent. Until something comes up more authenticated, I tend to think Nathan might be a dead-end. His marriage record shows him born about 1760; meaning he was possibly also an immigrant.

The Chaneys are rumored to have been Native American and if they were in Jackson Township in 1805, this would be so, as that's the only population there! Interesting fact: Near that time Coshocton was known as the Delaware Indian Capitol of United States.
The Chaney family often traveled back and forth between Harrison County and Coshocton County, as did the Randles & Fivecoat families.
On June 9, 2009, Larry Dean, his wife Sheila and myself proceeded to find the tombstone of Mary. Although, I had found the stone and subsequently the obituary many years previous, I could not find it again. With great joy, Larry spotted it. Mary is his gr gr gr grandmother. We both took a picture of the tombstone. It is very weathered and we could not make out the day she was born!
The will of Issac Randles, Mary's husband, was probated April 4, 1842 in Coshocton County, Ohio.

    1793
On December 24, 1793 a Bond of Marriage of Dickerson Wood II and Hannah Wither was executed and delivered by John Withers, Hannah's father, to Henry Lee, Esquire, Governor of Virginia. The bond read:
Dickerson Wood and Hannah Withers Marriage Bond
Know all men by these Presents, That we Dickerson Wood and John Withers are held and firmly bound unto his Excellency Henry Lee, Esq. Governor of Virginia, in the just and full sum of one hundred fifty dollars, current money, to which payment well and truly to be made, to the said Governor or his successors, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, and administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these Presents: Sealed with our seal, and dated this 24 day of December 1793.
The condition of the above obligation is such, that, whereas there is a marriage suddenly intended to be solemnized, between the above bound Dickerson Wood and Hannah Withers now if there be no lawful cause to obstruct the said Marriage, then the above obligation to be void and of no effect, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
Sealed and delivered in presence of (illegible)
    /s/ Dickerson Wood
    /s/John Withers

Dickerson Wood II joined Darnold, in Culpeper County, Virginia, after Dickerson Wood I died in 1803. William Wood seems to have stayed at the home place in Virginia until joining with others leaving for Kentucky in about 1816. It is not known if any other Wood came to Kentucky. The younger Dickerson Wood later settled in what became Marion County, West Virginia. He died between 1799-1864 in Marion County, West Virginia. There are descendents by his name in the 1880 census.

Dickerson Wood, Jr. was the son of Dickerson Wood and Mary. The family lived at Leeds Manor, having property leased to them from Lord Thomas Fairfax. They were to take care of the land and have so many apple trees and so many acres of tenable land, paying a yearly rent of 100 pounds. This is all documented.

Dickerson Wood [Seal] John Withers [Seal]

December 24, 1793 Hannah's mother, Elizabeth, consented to the marriage.

Fauquier County December 24th 1793. This is to certify that I Elizabeth Withers and Hannah Withers do give free liberty to Dickerson Wood to get ought license to join together the holy estate of matrimony as Witness our hands Elizabeth Withers Hannah Withers. (Volume 1-3 Fauquier County, Virginia Marriage Bonds)
Dickinson Wood married Hannah Withers September 3, 1786 in Fauquier County, Virginia; Dickinson Wood married Hannah Withers December 24, 1793 in Fauquier County, Virginia. These two different dates of marriage were reflected on a CD. Obviously one of the entries is in error. There is a 7 year difference between the two marriage dates. Note also that the first name is given as Dickinson rather than Dickerson. However, it is proof beyond a reasonable doubt that Dickinson Wood and Dickerson Wood are one and the same because (1) the marriage to a Hannah Withers is common to them and (2) the marriages occurred in Fauquier County, Virginia.
