Obiturary

Allen Thacker died December 18, 1877, at his son Elijah's in the north-eastern part of the county. He was born in 1787 and came to Illinois from Kentucky in 1828. He was a pensioner of the government and he is recorded in Squire Howard's books as follows: Allen Thacker, private, drafted in Capt. Malone's Company, 14th Reg. Kentucky, Vol. , in Barron County, Kentucky on or about the first day of July 1814 and was discharged at New Orkeans on or about the 11th day of January 1815. Married Harriet Vaughn, Garrett County, Kentucky October 10, 1810. Was at the battle of New Orleans under Gen. Jackson and was behind the cotton bales in the seige of New Orleans. His wife Harriet died at the same place only five days before and was six years his Junior.
