    Subject: RE: Salathiel Butts

Salathiels' brother Andrew, who lived in Texas, recorded the names of his parents in the family Bible. They were Henry James Butts and his wife Susan.

Susan died in Missouri about 1847. I have heard from other
Cousins that Henry also died and is buried in Missouri. I do not know the date.

The Butts family went to Georgia in 1844. I often wonder if it was to visit relatives. There were quite a few members of the UPCHURCH family living in Henry Co., Ga.

    Notes:

daughter of John Bounds & Mary Saphronia Cooley
Karl gives death date as Nov 1872.

She may not be daughter of John and Mary. Census records usually listed family first, and then taken-in children after their own children. This is the case here. 1850 Census of John and Mary in Jasper Co. MS give their children thru age 2, Morgan (1848) and after that, list Susan age 16 b 1834 and Jane age 9 1841 in South Carolina. Therefore, I'm indicating Susan and Jane as "foster" children of John and Mary.

    Birth:
1850 Jasper County Census indicates she was born in South Carolina, however it was by ditto marks thru the whole household. Perhaps inadvertent error.

In Residence 118 is Bowling L. Spurlock, age 3 1847, another child of William and Lavina. He is living with George & Mary Massengale (Massingill) and children.
By 1860, William and Lavina are in Rockport, Simpson Co, MS, with their children, Ann, Levina, and Adeline, age 15. Near is Young B. Massengale, and wife Martha. He is son of George & Mary Massengill who Bowling was living with; and Martha is daughter of William and Lavina Spurlock.
