He moved to Lawrence Co IL in 1809 from Mason Co KY. The family originated in Warm Springs, Bath Co VA (fomerly Augusta Co VA). Fort Allison was located on his property and used as a shelter during the War of 1812. He was a lay preacher for the Primitive Baptist Church and a Blacksmith by trade. Samuel & Phoebe had 10 children, 7 sons & 3 daughters

Three Allison men who are descendants of Samuel Veale Allison are members of the Allison/Ellison DNA Project. They have discovered their Y-Chromosome DNA test results match the DNA results of several Allison and Ellison men who trace their paternal ancestry back to Orange County, New York, in thew 1700s. attaching Samuel Veal Allison Sr. and Jonathan Allison, as well as a grandson, Joseph Allison, to Immigrant Joseph Allison, for study only - educated guess they are related due to common family connections of Young and Parker, and also location of Kentucky.
Samuel married Phoebe Young in 1770 in Kentucky. Phoebe was born in 1753 in Kentucky; died in 1820 in South Carolina. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
