    Gibbs Family Homepage: In 1733, Zachariah and Mary moved into that portion of Spotsylvania County, Virginia, that was later formed into Orange County, Virginia in 1734. On 3 April 1733, he purchased 100 acres of land in St. Marks Parish in Spotsylvania County from Richard Maulder. His brother-in-law, John Barnett, purchased the adjoining 184 acres from Mr. Maulder on the same day.

    Notes:

    John Gibbs, the son of Gregory and Mary Gibbs, was born in 1680 in Middlesex County, Virginia. He was subsequently christened in Christ Church Parish in Middlesex County on 10 October 1680. John was later married to a woman named
    Mary, and even though no record of their marriage has been uncovered, it is believed to have taken place in 1698 in Virginia.

    At a Court of Claims held for the County of Middlesex on 14 November 1699, John received 400 pounds of tobacco as a bounty for the heads of two wolves he had shot. And later, on 5 June 1704, he was appointed a Constable for the Middle
    Precincts of Middlesex County. On 5 May 1707, John was appointed Surveyor of Highways from Brandon to Grant Church, and from Turkes Ferry over Gardner's Swamp. Although John was released from this position on 7 December 1708, he
    was re-appointed on 7 April 1714.

    John and Mary appear to have remained in Middlesex County throughout their lives. John Gibbs died in Middlesex County, Virginia on 31 January 1725/1726. He was subsequently buried on 5 February 1725/1726. His last will and testament, which
    had been written on 14 June 1725, was later probated before the Middlesex County Court on 5 April 1726. His widow, Mary, died on 13 September 1728 in Middlesex County. With the exception of Ann, all of the children listed below were found in the christening records of Christ Church Parish in Middlesex County, Virginia.
