Rebecca had the unique experience of trveling across America in a covered wagon with her family. As a young child she lived in New York, as a young girl she lived in Ohio, and as a young woman she lived in Iowa. Iowa was where she married William "Willis" Barnes on Jan 12, 1840, and bore her first child. Her second child was born in Illinois, and the next two were in Missouri. Rebecca was pregnant with her fifth child when they traveled to Texas. On 29 Nov 1855 William purchased 15 acres of land from her brother Leverett. William built a home for Rebecca, the children, and widowed mother, Rebecca.
