Ann Cary Selden

Notes:

daughter of Cary Selden and Elizabeth Jennings.
After her husband's death (abt 1792) Mrs. Cary Selden lived with her daughter, Mrs. James Breckenridge, in Botetourt
County. At the time of her death, in 1807, she was with
her daughter, Sarah, Mrs. Andrew Hamilton, in Fincastle, Virginia.

Ann's brother Miles was killed at sea at the age of twelve ; as a boy he was wild and headstrong and his father thinking that the discipline on board ship would be good for him, sent him to the ship "Edward," commanded by his brother-in-law, Richard Barron ; they were attacked by pirates and Miles disobeyed the order to remain below hatches ; just as he put his head above deck it was taken off by a chain ball (two balls connected by a chain).
