    Valentine was born 23 Sept 1788 and died 22 Apr 1867, Carter Co TN. and was buried in the Bowers Cemetery at Siam. Valentine was a War of 1812 veteran. He went to Jackson Co. Missouri in the 1840?s but returned to Carter County. He was well-known Baptist minister who was active in several churches in Carter and Johnson counties. He and Eli Nave (Abraham, Teter) built an iron works on the south bank of the Watauga River in the Neck that Christian Carriger later bought.
    The History of the 13th Regiment Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry USA reports that ?Rev Valentine Bowers had two sons, Reese and Benjamin killed near Fish Springs, Tenn., and two others, William C. and Joseph P., who were loyal men.?
    Valentine married Abigail Buck on 01 Oct 1808 in Carter Co. Abigail was born 09 Jan 1793 in Tennessee. She was a daughter of Rev. Jonathan Buck and a sister of Susannah who married Valentine?s brother, William Nave Bowers.

    William served with his brothers Valentine and John Teter Bowers in Captain Adam Winsel's Company, Colonel Ephraim Allison's Regiment, Taylor's Brigade, Colonel Andrew Jackson's Division from January 5, 1814 through May 26, 1814. He and his brothers participated in the Battle of Horseshoe on the Tallapoosa River in Alabama.
