Captain Robert Alexander Cox, (son of who?) was born on 21 Nov 1832 in Jackson Co, Tennessee; died on 18 Jun 1892 in Jackson Co, Tennessee.

Died:
Robert was a lawyer in Gainesboro. He and wife Nancy Joseph Draper Cox had children Cora, Clara, and James. He enlisted 17 May 1861 in Co. K, 8th Tenn. Infantry, "Gainesboro Invincibles" as their "Principal Musician" and later (30 Oct 1862)transferred to the 4th (McLemores) Cavalry. He served extra duty as a teamster. He then was promoted to Captain in the Commisary Dept. He was captured by the enemy on 19 Feb 1864 in Bolivar, TN. First sent to Johnson's Island Prison in Ohio and then to Ft. Delaware where he stayed until the end, he took the Oath on 15 June 1865 and released. His description reads: dark hair, eyes, and complexion. 5'8" tall.
Note: He was one of the soldiers honored in a memorial service on 25 Sep 2011 by the SCV/OCR of Jackson County.
