James received bounty lands in Rutherford Co., Tn. (Stones River area)for his Rev. War service and his widow with most of her children moved there, early 1800 or late 1798-99. Their daughter Mary Doak married Alexander McKeen, also a Scot from N.C., and earlier from Pa.
