He came south with his parents and other members of the Vanover family in the 1780's.
He married Rebecca who may have been a Roark.
From the census records, etc., this family appears to have lived all their lives in Ashe County, North Carolina.
They lived in the Laurel area in the extreme western portion of the county near the Tennessee border.
Richard Vanover appears on the 1815 Ashe County, North Carolina Tax List.
