The earliest record of Lewis in Washington County, Tennessee appears to be in 1787, when he signed the a petition to the legislature of North Carolina (formation of the State of Franklin).Further records reflect that he transferred a land claim to Thomas Tadlock shortly before Oct 22, 1789.On Oct 14, 1794 he acquired certain lands from James Blair (Washington County Deed Book 6, pg 26) and on Aug 30, 1808 he purchased from James Blair 296 acres ("... in line between said counties (Washington and Greene) on the headwaters of Lick Creek ...") and adjoining tracty from Mary Blair, his mother in law (Jan 12, 1809 Greene County Deed Book 8).

Lewis' name appears in the 1814 Tax List of Washington County, Tennessee, also in Captain Corathers Company of Militia.

Lewis Tadlock's name first appears in the Washington County records about 1788.He owned over 500 acres of land on Lick Creek and several slaves.Lewis died in 1815, naming his wife Jane Blair in his will.Many of Lewis' descendants remained in Washington and Green counties.One son, James Tadlock, moved to Scotland County, Missouri, in 1848.That year, HENDERSON AND REBECCA MULLINS BROWN MADE THE SAME MOVE.

WILLIAM C. TADLOCK,

Now one of the farming residents of Washington County, Virginia, his home near Abingdon, is a native of Tennessee, born in Green County, that State, October 7, 1827.

His parents were Sevier and Mary Tadlock, the former the son of Lewis Tadlock who came from England to Tucaho, Virginia, in colonial days, and the latter a daughter of John Âlair of Washington County,Tennessee; the Blair family also of English extraction.

I have portions of Lewis' will on file.It was dated May 30, 1815 and probated in August of 1815.In his will, he makes provisions for his son John, his wife (shown as Jean in the will) and the five youngest children in her care (Severe and Carter indicated as the youngest sons), son Edward, son James (named as his second son), son John, and two son in laws ... Jesse Mullins (Elizabeth's husband) and Michael Martin (Mary's husband).His will names his wife (again shown as Jean) and son John as executors.There appears to have been a "falling out" with son Edward as he receives only a minimal share ($10).

The will of John Mullins of Saint James Northam Parish, Goochland County, Virginia, was admitted to record 16 June 1783. It reads: "I lend to my beloved with Elizabeth Mullins all my personal estate until such time that my youngest son William Mullins shall come to be twenty one years old. I give to my beloved son John Mullins 315 acres of land, lying and being in the county of Albemarle on the waters of Moormans River. My will and desire is all the remainder of my estate be equally divided amongst the rest of my children hereafter named: Henry Mullins, Conerly Mullins, Ann Ewel, Anthony Mullins, Daniel Mullins, Jesse Mullins, Elizabeth Williams, Mary Mullins, William Mullins, David Mullins, and Francis Mullins. I do appoint and order my two sons Henry Mullins and Conerly Mullins and my well beloved friend James Allen Executors of this my last will and testament and trustees for my wife and children."

In Goochland County Deed Book 4, pages 418-420, a deed dated 14 Dec. 1798 between the heirs of John Mullins: "John Mullins and Agnes, his wife; Connely Mullins and Mary, his wife; Anthony Mullins; David Mullins and Rosanna, his wife; Jesse Mullins and Elizabeth, his wife; William Mullins; Daniel Mullins; Rice Ennes and Francis, his wife, formerly Francis Mullins; Maxey Ewell and Anne, his wife, formerly Anne Mullins; Elizabeth Clements, infant daughter of Mary Clements, deceased, formerly Mary Mullins; Elizabeth Mullins; William Walton and Milley, his wife; Mary Jourdan formerly Mary Walton by Jeremiah Terrel and Joshua Jordan, her attorneys in fact; Jeremiah Terrel and Louisa, his wife, formerly Louisa Walton; Achilles Walton and others, the heirs of Jesse Walton, deceased; Charles Cobb and Ann, his wife, formerly Ann Walton; William Walton Burk, heir of Betsy Burk, formerly Betsy Walton, and the legal representatives of Susannah Hilton, formerly Susannah Walton. Henry Mullins had died and his heirs are apparently listed under the name Walton in this deed. From "Genealogical Abstracts From 18th Century Newspapers" by Robert K. Headley Jr., "Henry Mullins, deceased, executors, John & Conoly Mullins of Goochland will sell all his negroes and rent his plantation, about 3 miles from Cartersville. 9 Oct. 1798."
