Notes: The South Park Middle School building is a landmark structure in Beaumont. The South Park community dates back to 1890 when the Sparks brothers purchased 34 acres just about a mile north from "Spindletop Hill". In 1893 Jefferson County Commissioners legally created the South Park Common School District Number Six. And with the help of J.F. Kline and George Rexes along with the two Sparks brothers South Park School system was founded. Kline is credited with coming up with the name "South Park" for the little wooden school. Sometime later someone nailed the name "South Park" on the corner of the building making it official. John married Emaline Adaline Schmidt (Smith) about 1865 in Texas.
