If Margaret was the child born in 1667, then Mary was born between 1662 and 1667 and could be a child of either wife, Anne SMOOT or Mary. If Mary was born in 1667 then Margaret would have been born between 1662-1667. As Margaret married William Hungerford, Jr., a son of Anne Smoot (1st wife of William Barton) by her first husband William Hungerford, Sr., Margaret cannot be a daughter of Anne Smoot, as that would make she and her husband 1/2 brother and sister. In the one deposition in 1661, Anne stated 6 or 7 years ago was before she was married. At the same time Humphrey ATTWICKS deposition stated that 4 or 5 years ago he went to demand a bill of Mrs. CAGER by his sister-in-law Anne HUNGERFORD, widow.
From the first, she was not married before 1654 or 1655. By the second, her husband was dead by 1656 or 1657. As always when dealing with memory, those times may be off a little. I know he was deceased by in 1658.
William HUNGERFORD could have gone directly from England to MD or he could have been in VA first. If in VA first, at present no one has found a record of it. Hard to say how old he was. As a guess, if he was late teens or early 20s when he first appeared, then he would have been late 20s or early 30s when married.
Yes, I list Grace BARTON. When I just looked at my page, I noticed I had her under the correct parents (William BARTON and Anne SMOOT) but had a typo in listing her as Grace SMOOT. I have corrected that.
I notice you list William BARTON who died in 1705 as the one born in 1662. William BARTON Jr. (born ca. 1634) had two sons named William. The first was born in 1662, and the second was born on 27 Feb. 1667/8, he being the one who died in 1705. There is no death record listed for the first William, but he must have died before the second was born. The difference is, that descendants of William III by claiming he was the one born in 1662 have SMOOT ancestry. He was in fact the son of William Jr.'s second wife Mary -?-. Some descendants of William III become upset in losing their SMOOT connection.
I notice you list that Mary BARTON who married Thomas WARREN was born before 1665, and a child of William BARTON, Jr.'s second wife Mary -?-. Do you have evidence for her birth before 1665, and that she was a child of Mary? I, lean toward the belief she was most likely a daughter of William BARTON, Jr.'s second wife Mary, but can't say so for 100% certain.
William had a child (unnamed in the record) born 25 Mar. 1667. If that child was Margaret, then Mary was probably born about 1664 or 1665, and could be a child of either Anne SMOOT or Mary -?-. If Mary was the child born in 1667 then Margaret was probably born ca. 1664/5, which would make Mary definitely a child of William BARTON's second wife Mary.
The difference is again, whether descendants of Thomas WARREN and Mary BARTON are SMOOT descendants or not.
I find it curious that Ann's father and brother administered the land left to young William Hungerford, born abt. 1657 rather than William Barton to >whom she was married by late 1658. Any comment?

2. On 28 May 1658 William SMOOT assigned it to William BARTON, Jr.
3. 29 June 1662 William BARTON, Jr. has a son William BARTON born.
4. 1 Oct. 1662 William BARTON, Jr. delivered the patent to his brother-in-law Thomas SMOOTE for the use of William HUNGERFORD, Jr.
This is my feeling about what was happening, which is the main reason I believe that William BARTON Jr.'s daughter Mary was not a daughter of Anne SMOOT. [Sorry WARREN descendants, if you lose your SMOOT ancestry.] Neither of the deaths of the son William, or of Anne (SMOOT) HUNGERFORD BARTON were recorded. As listed above, the child William born in 1662 was deceased by 1667/8 when the other son William was born, and Anne was deceased by June 1666 (9 months before the child in Mar. 1667 was born). I believe they both died in 1662 between June when the son was born, and Oct. when he transferred the land. At that point, William BARTON, Jr. would have had no living children of his own, no wife, and a step-son William HUNGERFORD about 4 or 5 years old. I believe it is because his wife is deceased, that in Oct. 1662 he transfered the land and guardianship of his step-son William HUNGERFORD to blood relatives. Within the next year or two, William BARTON, Jr. then married Mary!

I also connect to SMOOT through William SMOOT's son Thomas, and on through several more SMOOT generations. In the Name of God Amen I William Barton of Charles County in the Province of Maryland Gentl. being very Sick & Weak of body but of Sound & perfect Mind & Memory Praised be Almighty God for the same & Considering the frailty of humane Life & that all Must Yield when God by Death is pleased to Call doe make this My last Will & Testament in manner & forme following hereby Disannulling & makeing Voyd all former & other Will or Wills by Me heretofore Made.
