(Nat. Rec.) Here, with 32 other men, Cato West volunteered in writing, addressed to "Mr. Robert Ellison, between the Wateree and Congaree Rivers on Simpson's Creek" "to make up a company to march to any part of the Province to defend it against the enemies of its liberty", dated 2nd Sept. 1775. This online article has a section on the Greens and mentions Cato. I will later take the time to read closely and try to determine where the Greens were prior to coming to MS. I now think they met Cato in the Rev. War. I found out that Everard Green was one of the sons who came to MS. He had a
daughter named Martha Wills Green and so did Thomas Green, his brother, both named after their mother.
Cato married one and Everard Green married the other. Maybe this article will explain that. Barb

    Research Notes:
The tale of two Catos. Charles Cato West born abt. 1764 is, I think, the brother of Littleberry West of the family of Wm and Keziah. He married Sarah Withers in 1785 in Faquier County, Va. I think he stayed around there for the rest of his long life. Do you remember responding to a query in May about him? This helps us account for the double life of Cato. The one who went to Natchez is Cato Thomas whose father is William G. West as the letter and lawsuit says. I never found the Will of William West born in 1688-1769 or a will of Thomas West who the letter said gave his money to his nieces and nephews and was Cato Thomas' guardian.
