10. | Major Thomas (not son of Wm & Amey) Green was born in 1725 in Westmoreland Co, Virginia (son of William Marston Green and Amey Clay); died after 1813 in Horsepen, Amelia Co, Virginia. Other Events and Attributes:
- Residence: 25 Apr 1761, Prince Edward Co, Virginia; purchased 200 acres
Notes:
Thomas Green purchased land in 1761 in Prince Edward County Virginia from Peter Davis, and later married his daughter Lucy, after the death of his first wife, Ann Berryman.
The Thomas Green who married Lucy Davis -- and earlier Anne Berryman - was still very much alive in 1814 and living in the same lo cation where he had lived since about 1760. He can be found readily on th e 1810 Federal Census for anyone who cares to take a peek
Note:
There is no documentary proof that Thomas Green's father was a William Green., plus he did not name a son, William. There is documentary proof that Peter Davis was the blood grandfather of Berryman Green, Thomas and Lucy's oldest son. Even the family history written in 1915 by Emma Green Phillips, Berryman's great granddaughter gives Lucy Davis Green as Berryman's mother. Berryman Green was born on 31 Jan 1753, probably in Amelia Co VA, as Peter Davis bought land there in 1742 and moved his family there from Goochland Co. VA.

Subject: Re: [GREEN-L] Right & Wrong Greens......
Good Morning Doris;
I hate to be the one to rain on that parade, but it is not even remotely possible that the Thomas Green who married Lucy Davis is the son of William Green and Amey Clay. Here are just three or four points that come to
mind:
1. When William died sometime after July 1744 but before August 1747, he left a rather detailed will naming his MINOR children including Thomas.
2. In the will William basically cut off Amey as soon as she remarried -- which she did almost immediately.
At a court in July 1748, a Thomas Green Jr. (likely the son of Elizabeth Marston Green by process of elimination) petitioned to become the guardian of the MINOR children - - and was still their guardian even as late as October 1749 - - although some had married by this time.
3. Thomas, son of William and Amey Clay, inherited much of his father's estate and was still living on a portion of that land when he DIED in 1791.
He too left a rather detailed will.
4. Major Thomas Green who married Lucy Davis was still very much alive for the 1810 Census (Page 254) and was still alive as late as 1813, contributed some service to the War of 1812 and served as County Commissioner as late
as 1813. Lastly; he was "located" on a circa 1820 hand drawn map of Amelia County living in the same location where he bought the land from his father-in-law Peter Davis.
Taken together - - your newly found chart - - can not possible be correct.
It appears that somebody has made another "giant leap or assumption"
without even bothering to check the public records.
Sincerely;
David T. Green

Thomas married Lucy Davis about 1761 in Prince William Co, Virginia (prob). Lucy (daughter of Peter Davis and Catherine Priest) was born about 1735; died in 1785. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
