Linda, I saw the 1850 census. That is only place I have seen Bartella's name.
The John Knight is same age as my John Knight born 1791, married Rachel Hankins 4 April 1816 Hopkins County, Ky. He and Rachel had children William, James, David Harvey, Sarah and Louisa who would be about same ages as the ones listed in the 1850 Christian County census. The youngest was Sarah born 1838.
In Christian County marriages we found: John Knight and Ann Oglesby married 18 Oct. 1840.....Is this the same John Knight? there were too many John Knights, and Christian County did not require the bride and groom to answer all the questions, so for the most part, those pages are blank! At least the ones I am interested in, seem to be.
In Christian County vital statistics: 10 Oct. 1856 Ann Knight-daughter of John and Jane Oglesby. mother born Va.
John Oglesby was brother to my Constant Oglesby jr. who came to Christian County, Ky by 1803. Jane is listed in the census in same neighborhood with Constant, so evidently John died before 1810.

Hi Jean, Thanks so much for this information! I've wondered what Bartilda/Bartella was doing in this family. At first I thought she might be acting as a servant or the like, but it doesn't indicate that in the census record. It certainly sounds like Ann Oglesby Knight must have been related to her. I'd think she was Bartilda's mother by a previous
marriage/relationship, but if Ann's maiden name was Oglesby, that doesn't seem too likely(?). Maybe an aunt? It's definitely an avenue for me to pursue, at any rate. I'm a little unclear on the vital record, though -- did Ann Oglesby Knight die on 10 Oct. 1856?
Thanks again for this information!!
Linda

Looks like the children belong to Rachel. Looks like Ann was a widow Oglesby with Bartilda/Barella her daughter from that first marriage. In 1850 census, though, Louisa is listed after the other children, indicating she's somehow different - a relative, or from another marriage (no, dates don't substantiate that), something other than birth child of head and wife.
