Brook Payne (1872-1938), author of "The Paynes of Virginia,", C. J. Carrier Company, Harrisonburg, VA 1990 (Second Printing), the primary source for the following. More about this line of Paynes can also be found at Danny Payne's Paynes of Virginia (offline).
