1. | Persis Hanna Barnhill was born on 20 Jan 1806 in Lynchfort, Shelby Co, Kentucky (daughter of James Barnhill and Hannah Persis Boone, (2nd cousin of Daniel)); died on 16 Feb 1886 in Shelby Co, Kentucky. Notes:
Excerpt from "History of Daviess County, Kentucky", Inter-State Publishing Co, Chicago 1883. Reprinted by McDowell Publications, Utica KY 1980, p. 682:
"She was born in Oldham County, Ky., Jan. 20, 1808, and was a daughter of James and Hannah (Boone) Barnhill. She was a second cousin of Daniel Boone. Mrs. Howard was but fifteen when, in 1823, she came with her parents to Daviess County. Her father settled in what is now Boston Precinct, and Joseph Barnhill, his son, still lives on this old homestead farm. Mrs. Howard's father brought a large drove of sheep and the wolves killed all of them.
After Mr. and Mrs. Howard were married they settled in the timber on Green River, near Hartford, Ohio County, for a year; then returned to Knottsville Precinct, Daviess County, where he taught school and farmed until about 1842. They then settled on the old homestead farm in Masonville Precinct."

Note: The confusion regarding Persis' middle name may have either originated from her mother's first name of Hannah or her maternal grandmother's name of Persis Hannah (or Hanna) Henton (aka Hinton) Boone. Her grandmother's father was named George H Henton, which indicates his middle name may well have been "Hanna". This is still being researched, but Lila explains it well in the following statement...
"Some researchers are tempted to change the spelling of her name to "Hannah", but this is incorrect. Persis also had a brother with the middle name of Hanna, so this was no doubt a surname that they were associated with." - Lila
