  1. 4.  Moses Aldrich was born on 1 Apr 1690 in Mendon, Worcester Co, Massachusetts (son of Jacob* Aldrich and Huldah* Thayer); died on 9 Sep 1761 in Mendon, Worcester Co, Massachusetts.

    Notes:

    Moses died at 71 yrs of age.
    Moses was a blacksmith and became a Quaker Preacher. At the age of 21 he became affiliated with those Friends who were later to build their first Meeting House on what is now George Street. He was self educated and began preaching at the age of 25. From 1722 through 1741, this Quaker son of a Mendon farmer preached in most of the colonies as far south as the Carolinas, also on the Island of the Barbados, and lastly in the British Isles where he remained for almost two years.
    Moses died in 1761, age 71, and was buried in the Friends Burying Ground(George Street). No stone marks the grave of this fine man, or indeed any other, since it was not the custom of the Quakers.
    Moses' last will and testament was dated 08 Sep 1761 and named his well beloved son George Aldrich the sole executor of said will.

    Notes:

    They were living in Mendon at the time of their marriage, but it was recorded in Milford, performed by a Justice of the Peace. They may have been evacuating the town at the time, as it was burned by Indians a few days later (King Phillip?s War). Their first three children were born during their ?exile? in Braintree. They moved back to Mendon by 1680. After Jacob died, Huldah married Ebenezer Staples. Thayer {a} has Huldah married 13 Apr 1697 to Samuel Wilkerson, but that marriage should be her daughter Huldah [3712.4].

    Jacob and Huldah are Congregational. Jacob died without a will, leaving an estate of 267 pounds (about $30,000 today). They had difficulty dividing the estate, so the farm was sold to oldest son Jacob for 183 pounds.

    Hazadiah Comstock was a Quaker. He had a mare worth 2 pounds taken from him May 5, 1708 for not training.

    The House built by Hazadiah Comstock in 1733 and occupied by him until his death, by his widow Martha, his son Ezekiel, and grandson Henry and heirs till 1858 was burned about 1885. It stood a mile south of Blackstone Junction. The cellar walls were standing in 1896.

    Hazadiah deeded November 19, 1730 100 acres to sons William and Gideon.

    Smithfield, CT June 1734: the Assembly voted he be taken to Massachusetts Bay to have trial on complain of Jonathan Draper.

    Will March 10, 1763, proved March 5, 1764 makes bequests to sons John, Ezekiel, Gideon, Hazadiah; to wife Martha; to daughters Anne Comstock, Rachel Steere, Martha Staples; to children of daughter Catherine Steere, deceased, viz: Elisha, Nathan, David, Rachel; to grandchildren Susanna and Anthony Comstock, children of son Anthony, deceased; to grandchildren Mary Aldrich, Thomas Arnold and Catherine Arnold. Inventor, 10,421 pounds, 12 shillings, 10d.

    Hazadiah and Martha, his wife, November 29, 1757 receipt for 313 pounds for share of John Balkom's estate.

    The Hazadiah Comstock estate was in Smithfield, RI which before 1731 was part of Providence.
