- Funeral services for William A. "Pete" Helm, 89, of Alto, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the O. T. Allen & Son Funeral Home chapel in Alto with Rev. Dan Rankin and Rev. Don Copeland officiating. Burial will be at the Atoy Cemetery near Alto.
Mr. Helm died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, in Rusk.
He was born March 20, 1917, in Cherokee County to William Shepard and Fannie Underwood Helm. He lived all his life in Cherokee County and was a member of Atoy Baptist Church. he worked for the REA Electric Co-Op in the early 1940s, laying liners throughout the area and was a log cutter for more than 50 years. He later worked as a lumber consultant. He loved the woods. Hunting, farming and family were his life. He was preceded in death by parents, Shep and Fannie Helm; son, Albert Gene Helm; daughter, Shirley Marie Segura; five brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Mary B. Helm, Alto; daughters and sons-in-law, Patti and Bob Gray, Sacul, Kim Renee and Kevin Tracy, Whittman, Ariz.; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Linda Helm, Tool, Ronnie Steve Helm, San Pedro, Calif., Ronny and Debra Dean, Humble, Glyn and Kath Dean, Greenville, N.C.; sisters-in-law, Earnestine Witt, Rusk, and Margaret Smith, Grand Prairie; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, and nephews and other friends and relatives.
Pallbearers are Buddy Helm, Harlod Helm, Howard Loden, Kenneth Helm, Billy Sessions and Oland Sides.
Honorary pallbearers are John Loden and Jimmy Magruder.
