- The brothers became some of the early settlers of the Valley of Berkley, afterwards Frederick County. Builder of "Piedmont," one of the Briscoe family's estates. Piedmont is located 1 1/2 miles west of Charlestown, West Virginia, on Route . The house stands on a hillside overlooking a small stream that winds through the estate. The original house was constructed by a Robert Worthington around 1730 on property then called "Quarry Bank;" this was incorporated into the plantation house built by Dr. John Briscoe IV in 1784.
