Notes |
- Will of William Comstock, 12 Jan 1787, proved 26 Feb 1787. "Daughter Elizabeth & grandson Aaron to have remainder of homestead farm"
Sounds like Aaron is son of Elizabeth, however, when Elizabeth died in 1792, she "bequeaths to cousin Aaron Comstock, son of my sister Lydia Comstock" land given to her and Aaron by her father, William Comstock.
Since sister Lydia had died before William, it sounds as if Aaron was taken in by his aunt Elizabeth. With his name Comstock, it also sounds as if he was a child from either a previous marriage to another Comstock or an out-of-wedlock child of Lydia as Lydia had married Warren Matteson in 1775. William Comstock had provided for her three Matteson sons, Moses, Israel, and William, in his will.
