  	Victoria, Crossroads of So TX, (1982), FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH OF VICTORIA, TEXAS In Deed Book 4, page 145, Victoria County Courthouse, the following entry was made 28 March 1849 "We the undersigned, entertaining the same views of Christian Doctrine, Practice & Church Government as those held by the Denomination usually called Christians, do hereby organize Ourselves into a corporate body as contemplated by an act of the Republic of Texas, approved Jan. 20th 1845. Do authorize the appointment of Trustees in Certain Cases and adopt the name of 'The First Christian Congregation of Victoria'. In order that we may recieve the benefits of said act we hereby constitute and appoint Felix B. Webb, Mayberry M. Jones, James Lovelady, Ann Allie and their successors in Office a board of trustees to take & hold such property both real and personal for the use & benefit of said Congregation, as may hereafter be conveyed to the same.   Notes	She married Alfred Alonzo Lee Alee on 4 November 1847 in Victoria Co. He was born in 1820 in Pennsylvania. They had a daughter Julie Allee born in 1848. 1850 Victoria Census, Alfred, age 30, a mechanic, is living with James and Nancy Lovelady. The Victoria Advocate, Thursday, April 10, 1997, Old Clinton was Home to Many Interesting Families: (1) (Alfred Al. Lee, which somehow became Allee) first married Ann Lovelady, daughter of a pioneer preacher, and after she died about 1850, he married Julia Wilcox in Lavaca County on August 31, 1854, with Lovelady officiating. Buried at Weesatche. + Julia A. Wilcox Allee, buried in the old Clinton Cemetery near Cuero. (2) Alonzo Rolland Allee, killed at Goliad in 1897 and is also buried at Runge. (2) Alfred Y. Allee (Alfred and Julia) - Texas Ranger - killed in 1895 at Laredo and is buried at Runge. (3) Alfred Y. Allee, killed at Crystal City in 1918 (3) Alonzo W. Allee - Texas Ranger (4) Alfred Y. Allee, Sr. - Texas Ranger for 37 years; served as deputy sheriff in Bee County during Meriam "Ma" Ferguson's term as governor when he and other Rangers resigned, returing only after the election of James Allred in 19n 1987, one of the "more colorful of the old-style Rangers in recent times." (5) Alfred Y. Allee, Jr. - also joined the Rangers "The Allees are of the famous Texas Ranger family....It is an interesting family whose Texas roots go back to the area where Julia A. Allee was laid to rest in old Clinton Cemetery during the Civil War, a war that would end in Confederate defeat and bring Reconstruction to the South, putting Clinton on the map as one of the most turbulent towns in Texas. All that is left of the old county seat of DeWitt County is the cemetery... Many South Texas families have roots in and around old Clinton, including some of the most historically interesting families to be found anywhere in the state, such as that of Julia A. Allee, mother to a family of Texas Rangers." Julia Wilcox Allee had a sister, Mary Jane Wilcox, who married Jackson Jacobs. He was killed while serving as sheriff of Goliad County.

  Mabra Madden Jones and James Lovelady Families (70) Mabra Jones and wife Sarah Lovelady, daughter of Rev James Lovelady and Nancy Linville (maiden name unproven) - this family settled in Dewitt and Lavaca counties area of Texas before 1850, eventually spreading out to places like Waco and Beaumont and Palestine. This album is dedicated to that family unit. Letters written by some of these family members, mostly Mary Jones, are included. These letters span a time from 1855 on through in the 1920s. They were transcribed and supplied to me by Leonard Meyer in the late 1990s. He was from Halletsville and a descendent of the Butts, Bounds, Coolie families. James Lovelady's daughter Jane died with a young family of her own. Her husband, Andrew Butts, stayed a "son" to the family, even after he remarried Susan Bounds. Susan became the beloved Aunt to the Jones children who most of these letters were written to. While the Jones children were still young, Sarah Lovelady, daughter of James, and sister to Jane, died at an early age. Mabra remarried Martha Ponton and had several more children. But it's through these letters that we get a good view of the whole family and indeed brings them all to life and allows us to share their memories.
