  Notes	He married Catherine Cooke by bond dated 7 July 1780 in Duplin County. They moved to Bedford County, Tennessee about 1806-1808 where he founded the Shofner Lutheran Church. A modern monument there gives his birth and death dates as above. ********** Notes from Brenda Thomas, RootsWeb, WorldConnect: Martin was seventeen when the Revolution started. An account by his grandson Loton Shofner states " Martin Shofner was actively engaged as a soldier in the War of the Revolution serving in the North Carolina Line. I have often listened to my grandfather as he told me stories of those troblesome times. Martin was a man of wonderful physical strength and great activity even down to old age. One story illustrates his great strength. He was a member of a regiment of calvalry. On one occasion a regiment of infantry, being encamped near them, sent a challenge to bring out their best man for a trial of strength and skill at wrestling. Grandfather was selected to meet their champion and after the match, came off victor."   Notes	http://www.lynnpdesign.com/genealogy/fogleman.html The original Fogleman ancestor that I am related to is George Fogleman who came over with the Shoffner family (my grandmother's family) in the 1700's on the Ship Shirley which arrived in Philadelphia. Left is a picture of my grandfather, John Page Fogleman, when he was young. The Fogleman and Shoffner family came to this country from the same town in Germany. In fact, Michael Shoffner I, was married to Margaretha Fogleman (Vogleman) when he arrived in this country in 1739 [sic] 1751 on the (ship SHIRLEY; arrived in Pennsylvania; settled in Almance Co, now Burlington, N.C. My grandfather's parents were John Tyler Fogleman and Frances Shoffner Fogleman (pictured below). There were married during the civil war on December 31, 1863, the following is reported be their wedding photo.
